AWeber has been around since 1998, and is used by many of my friends in the internet marketing space.

The service is very inexpensive and very simple to use. At $19.95 per month, you really can’t go wrong with this solution. (NOTE: They offer a FREE 30 day trial.)

In summary: Aweber is a GREAT Autoresponder solution, and when you need more features that are not available in simple “autoresponder-only” services, then you won’t have to move to another service provider: simply begin using the other included features found in your Aweber account.

Interspire Email Marketer

Interspire Email Marketer is a really powerful autoresponder software that you host on your own servers.

Thus, you only pay once for the software, install it on your servers — and it’s yours. It’s fully customizable, and you have complete control over the interface that you see, and what your subscribers see.

This software isn’t exactly cheap — but you get what you pay for. At $495 a single user license, this software is for professional websites or newsletters that want top notch “in house”, “hosted on my own servers” software.
